Americans are now able to visit the European Union, vaccinated or not. The European Council has updated its list of countries whose citizens and residents should be allowed to travel freely to the bloc’s 27 member nations, and the United States is finally on it.

Following the announcement this June that Europe will open to U.S. travelers, pent-up folks are making plans. Especially when vaccinated, with money saved from the lack of travel opportunities in 2020, Americans are traveling again.

And most of us know people who are either in the process of going to Europe — or have already gone. Whether it’s strolling through museums in Paris, exploring ancient ruins in Rome, or walking along canals in Amsterdam, Americans are ready to experience the rich culture Europe has to offer, unavailable for so long.

Many want to stay awhile in maximally private lodgings. And where do they want to go most? A Summer 2021 European Travel Forecast, highlighting the most desired travel destinations throughout the continent based on extensive search data, has just been released by HomeToGo, a marketplace offering the world’s largest selection of vacation rentals.

“Europe opening its borders to U.S. travelers, along with the EU officially launching its digital vaccine passport on July 1, marks a significant milestone in the travel industry’s evolution following the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Caroline Burns, travel expert at HomeToGo.

“Notably, 92% of individuals surveyed in the company’s recent Return of Travel study stated that they intend on traveling the same or more internationally after receiving the vaccine, compared to pre-pandemic.”
